About The Position

Symbotic is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Software Engineer to develop scalable, high-performance software for advanced automation, fulfillment, and material-flow systems. This hands-on role works across distributed services and addresses complex optimization problems involving heuristics, graph-based algorithms, combinatorial optimization, bin packing, and sequencing. The engineer will design and productize reliable software to coordinate automated workflows, optimize the movement and consumption of inventory, and improve operational efficiency in large-scale automation environments. The role offers opportunities to influence architecture, scalability, performance, and maintainability while contributing to strategically important engineering initiatives. The team delivers solutions for ordering, processing, and delivering mixed-SKU totes to hundreds of customers. The position works in an Agile/Scrum environment and may involve travel to customer sites. Up to 10% travel may be required; employees must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience using C# and .NET.
  • Strong expertise in object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
  • Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and computational complexity analysis.
  • Proven experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-tuning skills.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL optimization.
  • Experience with source control systems such as Git.
  • Experience with SQL Server (PL/SQL).
  • Strong software design and implementation skills and a hands-on problem-solving approach.
  • Experience developing for Windows and Linux.
  • Experience developing unit tests and test automation frameworks.
  • Comfort with asynchronous or multithreaded programming.
  • Experience with cross-platform .NET Core development.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations when travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop real-time distributed software for automation systems.
  • Design highly available and widely scalable software systems.
  • Research, develop, and productize solutions for NP-hard optimization problems using combinatorial optimization or other algorithms.
  • Analyze distributed software components using performance, profiling, and debugging tools.
  • Develop software applications using a microservice-oriented architecture and technologies such as .NET Core, RabbitMQ, OpenAPI, and Kubernetes.
  • Build high-quality software, solve problems, and address new challenges.
  • Communicate proactively and collaborate with creative and technical peers.
  • Work in a dynamic Agile/Scrum-based environment.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed.
