About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring alignment with strategic roadmaps. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex requirements into effective solutions. The Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) team delivers comprehensive fulfillment solutions for Walmart Marketplace sellers, enabling scalable business growth. The team includes Engineering, Product, Business, and Analytics professionals collaborating to create innovative supply chain features such as inbound inventory simplification and personalized forecasting. This group emphasizes high-performance, scalable solutions through iterative development. Members contribute to defining technical architecture, driving engineering excellence, and supporting platform scalability and cost optimization. Working closely with cross-functional partners, the team adapts to evolving business needs while fostering continuous improvement and innovation in platform design and development.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and platform development to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, and C++ for AI/ML integration and intelligent automation.
  • Skilled in conducting design reviews and applying data-driven decision making to optimize engineering outcomes.
  • Effective mentorship and leadership capabilities to foster technical growth and collaboration across teams.
  • Adaptability to change with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in engineering practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • OR 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Lead system design reviews to ensure quality, feasibility, and alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using modern programming languages and platforms.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and track success metrics.
  • Continuously improve processes, tools, and products by embracing innovation and change agility.
