About The Position

Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex requirements into actionable solutions, promote engineering best practices, and continuously improve processes. This position demands strong technical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, maintainable software aligned with business objectives. The Reliability Engineering Platform team develops and maintains enterprise-scale systems that enhance operational reliability and efficiency across Walmart’s technology infrastructure. Focusing on distributed systems, observability, and resiliency automation, the team delivers scalable solutions that reduce systemic risk and provide real-time insights across microservices and multi-region Kubernetes clusters. Team members collaborate to design, implement, and support robust platforms using advanced engineering practices and continuous development. Their work ensures high availability and performance of critical systems, supporting Walmart’s commitment to operational excellence and innovation in technology delivery.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
  • Strong experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in conducting system design reviews and applying software design patterns to deliver secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability in API design, software prototyping, and driving engineering excellence through remedial action and continuous improvement.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision making to define success metrics and optimize development processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote long-term sustainability and standardization.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining Walmart in creating accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
  • Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
  • Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and intelligent automation features.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
  • Continuously improve processes, tools, and products through innovation and feedback integration.
