About The Position

Anduril’s Maritime Division is developing autonomous maritime vehicles and scaling production through its Proto-Factory in Orange County, California, in support of the broader Arsenal-2 shipyard initiative. The Staff Software Engineer, Navigation and Control will own navigation, guidance, and control for a maritime autonomous vehicle, defining how it determines its position, plans its destination, and navigates GPS-denied ocean environments. Reporting to the Cognitive Systems Lead, this role leads a team responsible for inertial navigation, safe navigation systems, and actuation control software. The engineer will set objectives, build cross-functional teams, and drive multidisciplinary design, analysis, integration, and testing to completion. The role supports prototype integration, testing, and sea trials, and requires travel of up to 25% to test sites and customer locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in GN&C, inertial navigation, or vehicle control systems.
  • Experience with INS, Kalman filtering, or sensor fusion.
  • Familiarity with control system design for marine or aerospace vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AUV, UUV, or submarine navigation systems.
  • Working knowledge of GPS-denied navigation techniques, such as DVL, USBL, and terrain-aided navigation.
  • Experience with safety-critical navigation system design.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modeling tools.
  • Experience in defense or maritime robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead INS integration and development of GPS-denied navigation solutions.
  • Drive Safe Navigation System design and the safety certification approach.
  • Define actuation and control software requirements in coordination with the body subsystem.
  • Manage navigation compute requirements and hardware selection.
  • Lead trade studies across navigation sensor suites and fusion approaches, including make-versus-buy decisions.
  • Lead and mentor IC3/4 engineers across GN&C sub-disciplines.
  • Interface with VMS, communications, and mission systems teams.
  • Support prototype integration, testing, and sea trials.
  • Travel up to 25% to test sites and customer locations.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
