Staff Software Engineer, Backend
About The Position
Tinder’s Engineering team builds innovative features and resilient systems that bring people together, experimenting with new ways to engage members. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will have significant impact and ownership of highly visible parts of the Tinder app. You will help improve architecture, explore emerging technologies, and deliver experiences at scale. The role involves designing, developing, and operating scalable, resilient distributed services running on Kubernetes or ECS. You will collaborate with functional teams to expand Tinder’s service platform, influence team roadmaps and product development, and recruit, encourage, and develop team members.
Requirements
- Excellent knowledge and experience with a backend language such as Java, Node.js, Go, or C++.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or an equivalent field, with 5+ years of industry work experience.
- Excellent knowledge of computer science fundamentals, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and coding.
- Experience designing and building distributed backend systems that handle high volumes of traffic.
- Experience handling ambiguous business requirements, with strong prioritization and time-management abilities and a focus on execution.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with cloud computing systems such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience designing and developing with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
- Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Spark.
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Experience with Agile development methodology and CI/CD.
- Experience with Docker containers.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate scalable and resilient distributed services running on Kubernetes or ECS.
- Collaborate with functional teams across Tinder on expansion of the service platform.
- Influence the team roadmap and product development.
- Recruit, encourage, and develop other team members.
