About The Position

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Tinder, you will have significant impact and ownership over highly visible parts of the Tinder app. You will help build innovative features and resilient systems that bring people together, while contributing to architecture improvements, exploring emerging technologies, and delivering new experiences at scale. The role involves designing, developing, and operating scalable distributed services, collaborating across functional teams, influencing roadmaps and product development, and helping recruit and develop other team members.

Requirements

• Excellent knowledge and experience with a backend language such as Java, Node.js, Go, or C++.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or an equivalent field, with at least 5 years of industry work experience.
• Excellent knowledge of computer science fundamentals, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and coding.
• Strong experience designing and building distributed backend systems that handle high volumes of traffic.
• Experience handling ambiguous business requirements, with strong prioritization and time-management abilities and a focus on execution.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with cloud computing systems such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience designing and developing with NoSQL systems such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
• Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Spark.
• Experience with TypeScript, Agile development methodology, and CI/CD.
• Experience with Docker containers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate scalable, resilient distributed services running on Kubernetes or ECS.
• Collaborate with functional teams across Tinder to expand the service platform.
• Influence the team roadmap and product development.
• Recruit, encourage, and develop other team members.
