EN8715 - Staff Scientist - Imaging

Mindray North America•Milpitas, CA

About The Position

Mindray North America is seeking a Staff Scientist (Imaging) to advance ultrasound imaging performance and image quality across its premium medical imaging systems. The role focuses on optimizing imaging control parameters and transducer performance to support high-quality clinical imaging. The Staff Scientist will collaborate with imaging scientists, engineers, and clinical sonographers to refine imaging systems and explore approaches that advance ultrasound technology. The position involves probe-specific optimization of imaging parameters across multiple imaging modes, such as B-mode and color Doppler. The scientist will use theoretical modeling, MATLAB simulations, experimental testing, and SQL databases to configure and refine parameters, and conduct measurements with imaging phantoms and human subjects in controlled research and clinical environments. The role also contributes to transducer development, imaging research, signal-processing algorithms, simulation tools, software routines, and technical documentation. The work is primarily office-based, using standard laboratory and office equipment. Work is mostly sedentary, with occasional standing or walking during testing or collaboration. Infrequent travel may be required, approximately one to two clinical trips per year.

Requirements

  • PhD in signal-processing-based engineering, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline; an MS with exceptional relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Strong experimental and analytical skills.
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar signal-processing toolboxes.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Comfort collaborating within small technical teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead probe-specific optimization of imaging parameters to improve ultrasound image quality across multiple imaging modes, including B-mode and color Doppler.
  • Apply expertise in acoustics or related fields such as optics, radar, or signal processing to optimize ultrasound transducer performance for clinical imaging applications.
  • Configure and refine imaging parameters through SQL databases using insights from theoretical modeling, MATLAB simulations, and experimental testing.
  • Conduct measurements using imaging phantoms and human subjects in controlled research and clinical environments.
  • Partner with imaging scientists, engineers, and in-house clinical sonographers to guide system optimization and align performance with real-world clinical needs.
  • Support refinement of existing transducers based on clinical and market feedback.
  • Contribute to development of new transducer designs and imaging capabilities.
  • Identify unexpected imaging behaviors or system issues and collaborate with technical experts to determine solutions.
  • Explore new approaches to advance medical ultrasound imaging through independent research and experimentation.
  • Develop signal-processing algorithms, simulation tools, and software routines.
  • Use technologies such as MATLAB, C, DSP, GPU computing, and related signal-processing tools.
  • Produce technical documentation supporting imaging research and development.
