About The Position

The Maneuver Dominance team at Anduril develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy. Omen is a hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle designed to deliver the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of larger aircraft in a runway-independent Group 3 platform. It can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings. Omen has a mass-production contract for 50 systems. Anduril is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own end-to-end software integration for Omen’s airborne counter-UAS effector payload and build the team around it. The role leads the autonomy architecture for Omen’s counter-UAS dogfighting mission, from prototype through fielded software, including target finding, pursuit, and engagement. It spans perception and sensor fusion, intercept guidance and fire control, payload and vehicle interfaces, simulation, flight testing, verification and validation, release control, and field sustainment.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years building software for robotic or autonomous systems, including at least one system taken from concept through field deployment.
  • Strong engineering background, ideally in Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary software teams, including hiring.
  • Strong Rust or C++ skills for real-time and embedded systems, plus Python for tools and analysis.
  • Deep experience in target tracking and sensor fusion, including state estimation, filtering, data association, and track quality for small, maneuvering targets.
  • Experience with guidance, motion planning, or control for fast-moving vehicles, and understanding of associated latency and bandwidth tradeoffs.
  • Experience integrating and characterizing perception sensors in software.
  • Experience building closed-loop simulation for algorithm validation and using flight or field data to address differences between simulation and reality.
  • Hands-on field-test experience, including test planning, instrumentation, and data analysis.
  • Experience as technical owner of a safety-critical autonomy system, including requirements, architecture, V&V, and release.
  • Familiarity with U.S. export regulations as they apply to weapon-system software.
  • Ability to travel about 25%, with potential additional travel during test and demonstration events.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with fire-control, weapon, or effector software, including weapon release logic and safe-and-arm functionality.
  • Counter-UAS experience, including engagement chains, fire control, or targeting small unmanned aircraft.
  • Air-to-air autonomy, pursuit-evasion, or adversarial planning experience, including reinforcement learning or game-theoretic methods.
  • VTOL, tail-sitter, or rotorcraft autonomy experience and familiarity with their flight-envelope limits.
  • Experience with gimbal or turret pointing software, stabilization, boresighting, or targeting chains.
  • Familiarity with lead and ballistic solutions and sensor-to-effector latency.
  • Familiarity with software safety standards for weapon or flight systems, such as MIL-STD-882E or DO-178C.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems, embedded Linux, middleware such as ROS 2 or DDS, and time-synchronized systems.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as Gazebo, Unreal, or AirSim, and Monte Carlo engagement analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the autonomy architecture for Omen’s counter-UAS dogfighting mission from prototype through fielded software.
  • Collaborate with the Omen Perception team on target tracking and perception.
  • Architect methods for combining data from multiple sensor sources to meet mission objectives.
  • Design intercept guidance and pursuit planning to position the aircraft to engage maneuvering targets within operational limits.
  • Work with the Omen Autonomy team and embedded autonomy engineers on tactics development.
  • Own fire-control software, including lead and ballistic solutions, targeting commands, and decisions about when to shoot.
  • Manage the sensor-to-shot latency budget.
  • Own software interfaces with the payload, vehicle, and mission compute, including message definitions, timing, time synchronization, and command authority.
  • Build simulation to validate engagement performance before flight.
  • Plan and conduct flight-test campaigns, including live range events, and lead root-cause investigations when results differ from predictions.
  • Lead verification and validation, release and configuration control, and the sustainment path for fielded software.
  • Write requirements for SEIT and V&V engineers to test and validate the system.
  • Build the team around the airborne counter-UAS effector payload software effort, including hiring.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are part of Anduril’s total compensation package.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, including a comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees.
