This position assists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. The role involves delegating, directing, overseeing, and providing developmentally appropriate patient care. It requires practicing professional nursing and promoting patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintaining a current Ohio Nursing License. The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is a 20-bed unit with 12 closed-door rooms and 8 open bay rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2, with a high acuity ratio of 2:1. Patients range in age from birth to late adulthood and have conditions such as Congenital Heart Defects, Acquired Heart Disease, and are pre/post-surgical, including heart and lung transplants. The unit also cares for ECMO and VAD patients.
