Staff RF Engineer

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA

About The Position

Anduril’s Air Defense team develops networked sensors and effectors to detect, track, identify, deter, and defeat a broad range of uncrewed aerial system threats. The team develops, tests, deploys, and sustains its Family of Systems in challenging operational environments worldwide, collaborating across product, engineering, sales, logistics, operations, and mission success. The Staff RF Engineer will architect, design, integrate, and test communications networks across platforms and systems, with an emphasis on command-and-control systems. The role includes designing and evaluating tactical wireless networks and datalinks, developing waveforms and systems that connect autonomous and human-operated systems, and leading electrical integration of communications systems, avionics, and payloads. The engineer will also support other engineering teams and represent communications and networking subsystems in vehicle-level design trade-off studies. The role requires travel 25% of the time and the ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in communications systems architecture and design for high reliability, resiliency, redundancy, and/or fault tolerance.
  • Ability to collaborate with other teams to define product requirements, develop specifications, and conduct system-level testing.
  • Understanding of RF circuit design, including noise figure analysis, frequency synthesis, modulation, AGC, antenna matching, power amplifier biasing, and filtering.
  • Strong knowledge of RF propagation, link budgets, and digital communications, including modulation, FEC, spread spectrum, and multiple access.
  • Hands-on experience integrating and troubleshooting radios on vehicles or platforms.
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC and system-level integration issues, including MIL-STD-461/464.
  • Proficiency with RF test equipment and test automation, including VNAs, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Understanding of hardware evaluation methodologies, including developing test cases and suites, performance monitoring, test automation, and data analysis.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with DO-254, DO-178C, and DO-160.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, and MIL-STD-882.
  • Experience designing sensitive RF circuits.
  • Basic understanding of RF frequency regulations.
  • Experience with practical network configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with network modeling and simulation.
  • Knowledge of network security integration and implementation and its impact on network design.
  • Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis.
  • Experience automating tests in development and production environments.
  • Proficiency with wireless networking equipment from a variety of vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, integrate, and test communications networks across a variety of platforms and systems, with a focus on command-and-control systems.
  • Design, configure, simulate, and evaluate wireless tactical networking equipment, topologies, systems, and datalinks.
  • Architect waveforms and systems that connect autonomous and human-operated systems.
  • Lead electrical integration of communications systems, avionics modules, and payloads into UAVs, ground vehicles, weapons systems, and command-and-control systems.
  • Support other functional engineering teams’ development efforts by applying knowledge of wireless networks and communications, system impacts, and design trades.
  • Represent communications and networking subsystems in vehicle-level, cross-disciplinary trade-off studies to define and optimize vehicle and system designs and their operating environments.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees.
