Staff Engineer RF Microwave Design

Northrop Grumman•Baltimore, MD
•$169,000 - $253,600•Onsite

About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking an RF Engineer to join the AESA Subsystem & Product Leadership department, Installed Performance section, based in Linthicum, Maryland. The position is 100% on-site and supports full-life-cycle programs, including system design and integration, hardware design and integration, and hands-on build and test. The team works across computational electromagnetics (CEM), RF antenna modeling in installed environments, subsystem design and analysis, specialized mechanical design and analysis, and material evaluation. The role includes Installed Performance design, prototyping, testing, and production support for advanced systems. Work involves electrical modeling, subsystem analysis, CEM development, materials, antenna-range and test-equipment measurements, and manufacturing processes. The engineer collaborates with a cross-functional Integrated Product Team and adjacent functions, organizes work to meet project milestones within schedule and budget constraints, engages suppliers in development and risk-reduction activities, and provides technical leadership and mentoring. The position requires transfer of an active government Secret clearance and the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) before starting. Travel is 10% of the time. Relocation assistance may be available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and 12 years of experience; or a master’s degree and 10 years of experience. An additional four years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Current/active DoD Secret clearance, with ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) before starting.
  • Experience in RF subsystems.
  • Familiarity with HFSS, CST Microwave Studio, GRASP, FEKO, SENTRi, or other computational electromagnetics software tools.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or FORTRAN.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance or higher with Special Program Access.
  • Experience with platform integration.
  • Experience with sensor impact on mission modeling for “blue line” flights.
  • Experience with interactions between sensor and platform.
  • Experience integrating platform materials into AESA design.
  • Experience with active and passive antenna testing.
  • Indoor and outdoor range experience.
  • Electrical design experience focused on RF performance.
  • Familiarity with RF lab equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters.
  • RF subsystem design and analysis experience.
  • Experience with complex data reduction and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Installed Performance design, prototyping, testing, and production support.
