Staff product Manager Handset Technology

Qualcomm•San Diego, CA
•$181,800 - $272,600

About The Position

Qualcomm is seeking a Staff Product Manager to join the Handset Technology Product Management team and support the definition of next-generation mobile experiences across Snapdragon platforms. The role works with senior product management, architecture, engineering, and technology teams to identify emerging mobile use cases, translate customer and market needs into actionable technical requirements, and coordinate execution across multiple IP organizations. The position contributes across CPU, GPU, AI/NPU, Camera, Multimedia, Connectivity, Memory, I/O, System Architecture, Security, and Software to help align technology investments with real-world handset workloads and OEM needs. It is a hands-on individual-contributor role requiring technical depth, structured product thinking, analytical capability, and cross-functional execution. The successful candidate investigates complex system problems, develops data-driven recommendations, maintains stakeholder alignment, and independently owns defined workstreams within broader handset technology initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in semiconductor, mobile platform, system architecture, technical product management, systems engineering, or a related field; the posting also lists a minimum qualification of 5+ years of Product Management or related work experience.
  • Technical understanding of mobile SoC architecture and demonstrated depth in at least two relevant domains, such as CPU, GPU, AI/NPU, Camera, Multimedia, Memory, I/O, Connectivity, power/performance/thermal management, or mobile software.
  • Experience translating product or customer needs into technical requirements, usage models, workloads, KPIs, or engineering plans.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering or product organizations to resolve dependencies and deliver complex technical outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills, including the ability to structure ambiguous problems and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Ability to influence technical stakeholders without direct authority and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Snapdragon platforms, mobile OEM requirements, or semiconductor IP and platform planning.
  • Experience in mobile AI and agentic systems, computational photography, gaming, ambient computing, or future mobile user experiences.
  • Experience conducting competitive analysis, workload characterization, system performance analysis, or use-case-driven architecture planning.
  • Familiarity with product planning across multiple roadmap horizons and platform tiers.
  • Experience preparing technical content for senior leadership, customers, or executive reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and analyze emerging mobile use cases across AI, multimodal experiences, gaming, imaging, content creation, productivity, ambient computing, XR, and next-generation user interfaces.
  • Gather and synthesize inputs from OEMs, ecosystem partners, internal product teams, competitive products, and market trends.
  • Translate use cases into opportunity statements, platform implications, and technology requirements; prepare analyses and recommendations supporting long-term handset technology and roadmap decisions.
  • Convert end-user experiences into measurable system and subsystem requirements, usage models, workload descriptions, KPIs, operating points, and success criteria across relevant technology domains.
  • Partner with engineering teams to validate assumptions, quantify tradeoffs, and refine requirements in light of feasibility, power, performance, thermal, area, cost, and schedule considerations.
  • Maintain requirements, decisions, dependencies, risks, and open issues through architecture reviews and product planning cycles.
  • Support workload characterization, competitive analysis, system bottleneck identification, and technical gap assessments for key handset experiences.
  • Help evaluate early IP concepts against representative mobile use cases and operating conditions; define benchmarks, models, and evaluation frameworks focused on user-relevant performance.
  • Track gap-closure plans and communicate status, evidence, risks, and recommendations to the handset technology team.
  • Own defined workstreams within cross-IP programs, from problem definition and analysis through requirements alignment and execution tracking.
  • Coordinate working sessions across architecture, engineering, software, product management, and customer-facing teams; document decisions, tradeoffs, owners, milestones, and action items and drive closure of open issues.
  • Escalate material risks or misalignment with supporting data and proposed paths forward, while maintaining disciplined follow-through and communication in ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Participate in technical discussions with OEMs, ecosystem partners, developers, and internal business teams to understand future needs and validate assumptions.
  • Analyze customer feedback, distinguish common platform needs from customer-specific requests, and convert findings into actionable requirements.
  • Prepare technical briefs, competitive assessments, meeting summaries, and executive-ready materials; support follow-up and reflect customer commitments and insights in planning processes.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus).
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support employees at work, at home, and at play.
