The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment. Why we love to do what we do: We’re helping build the world of tomorrow with solutions that improve everyday life while making a positive impact on the planet. Our products and services work in harmony to provide comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind for millions of homes and businesses. While we’re proud of what we’ve done so far, there’s still a lot we can do—and you can be part of it. Join our extraordinary team. We're a rapidly growing global tech company headquartered in Canada, in the heart of downtown Toronto, with an office in Leeds, UK, and remote ecopeeps in the US. We get to work with some of North America and UK's leading professionals. Our colleagues are proud to bring their authentic selves to work, confident that what we do is grounded in a greater purpose. We’re always looking for curious, talented, and passionate people to join our team. Who You'll be Joining: Our hive, headquartered in Toronto, is looking for a Staff Product Manager to lead our Energy Devices portfolio—owning the product direction for ecobee’s Smart Thermostats and SmartSensors, and helping us extend into future energy devices over time. You will bring extensive experience shipping hardware products at scale and partner closely with Hardware Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain & Operations, and go-to-market stakeholders to deliver devices that are differentiated, reliable, and meet customer needs. You’ll operate as a senior product leader—setting strategy, defining what we build and why, and driving crisp decisions across complex technical and operational trade-offs. At ecobee, Product Managers are expected to operate as builders, storytellers, and stewards of the business: we stay deeply connected to customer needs and delivery realities, we clarify and communicate the value of what we’re building, and we take ownership for outcomes over the full product lifecycle. This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration, and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product management (or equivalent) experience with significant hardware device experience, including multiple shipped products from concept through launch and lifecycle ownership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across hardware engineering, firmware engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations—with a track record of shipping through complex dependencies.
  • Deep experience running hardware product development and launch processes, including requirements definition, risk management, and decision-making across performance, cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Experience owning products that require certifications/compliance (e.g., UL/CSA, ENERGY STAR),and partnering effectively to plan and execute certification workstreams without compromising delivery.
  • Strong customer and market instincts paired with technical credibility—able to translate real customer needs into clear product direction and engineering-ready requirements.
  • Strong analytical thinking and judgment: you define success metrics, interpret product/quality signals, and use structured decision-making to drive outcomes.
  • Senior leadership and influence: you align stakeholders, communicate clearly to mixed audiences, and raise the bar for product thinking and execution.
  • As a self-starter and natural leader, you are comfortable with ambiguity and will take a position or engage in a tough conversation to drive your business forward.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for ecobee’s Energy Devices portfolio, balancing customer value, business outcomes, and technical feasibility across Smart Thermostats, SmartSensors, and future energy hardware.
  • Lead end-to-end hardware product management from discovery through launch and iteration—defining clear problems to solve, crisp requirements, and measurable success outcomes.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across hardware, firmware, mobile, manufacturing, quality, and operations—surfacing trade-offs early and making clear, principled recommendations.
  • Partner with engineering to define and deliver device-level capabilities (e.g., sensing accuracy, temperature compensation, humidity adjustment, latency), ensuring product decisions account for real-world performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead planning and execution for multi-channel launches, including navigating complexity when a thermostat release includes both retail and professional variants (e.g., feature deltas, packaging/SKU implications, channel readiness).
  • Ensure device programs meet required certifications and compliance expectations (e.g., UL/CSA, ENERGY STAR, and other applicable requirements), integrating certification strategy into program plans and launch readiness.
  • Drive product decisions that improve supply chain resiliency and cost control, partnering with Operations and Supply Chain to manage BOM, availability risk, and long-term platform sustainability.
  • Define and manage success metrics (adoption, activation, reliability/quality signals, returns/defects, and customer satisfaction inputs) and use those signals to guide post-launch iteration and portfolio decisions.
  • Embody ecobee’s expectation that PMs are builders, storytellers, and stewards—staying close to delivery, clarifying product value and narrative, and owning end-to-end outcomes across the lifecycle.
