About The Position

The Staff Process Engineer applies knowledge of process fundamentals, process equipment, refinery practices, and specific technologies to support safe, environmentally responsible, reliable, and optimal refinery operations. The role uses data-driven critical thinking and works across refinery teams to advance these objectives. The engineer supports the refinery network and assigned process technology through troubleshooting, economic improvement, reliability and safety work, design improvements, process guidance, project quality assurance, and unit performance optimization. The role also contributes to process engineering reporting, maintains relationships across functions, and mentors and trains Engineers and Specialists, with guidance from a Principal Process Engineer where specified.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (four-year degree) required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered instead.
  • Ten or more years of process engineering experience or equivalent ability in the refining industry required.
  • Knowledge or capability in process engineering, fixed equipment, operation, metallurgy, refining processes, unit management, and refinery economics.
  • Capability in personal safety, process safety, project and turnaround work, relationship management, communication, influencing, critical thinking, and mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Support the refinery network by contributing to the process engineering monthly report format and, as needed, reviewing monitoring reports and providing feedback.
  • Conduct monthly touch-base discussions for technology-specific process units in the functional area, document notes, and seek feedback from the Principal Process Engineer as needed.
  • Contribute significantly to complex process technology troubleshooting and to economic improvement, reliability, and safety incident work in the assigned technology area.
  • Determine design improvements and collaborate with site teams to implement them, with oversight from the Principal Process Engineer.
  • Develop engineering judgment for process and equipment design in the technology area through mentoring and participation in industry conferences.
  • Maintain and suggest improvements to the company process guide and best practices, and implement existing practices where practical.
  • Use training materials and potentially deliver internal company training, including operator process training classes.
  • Provide technical quality assurance on medium and smaller capital projects related to the engineer’s technology expertise.
  • Work with the corporate LP modelling group to ensure unit constraints and yields are accurately reflected in the corporate linear programming model; develop tools as needed to maintain LP yield vector shifts.
  • Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships with refinery economics, operations, the lab, maintenance, refinery leadership, and other groups to optimize unit performance to constraints.
  • Mentor and train Engineers and Specialists.

Benefits

  • 401(k) match of up to 10%, with a one-year vesting timeline.
