About The Position

Neo is seeking Staff and Principal Engineers who are elite individual contributors and want to own a meaningful piece of what we're building. This is a role for individuals who want to operate at the edge of their capability and build something that matters. Neo is rebuilding financial services infrastructure from scratch, having shipped a full-stack banking platform (credit cards, savings accounts, mortgages, personal loans, cash back rewards) at a pace most financial institutions can't match in a decade. The engineering team is the driving force behind this rapid development. The platform handles real financial transactions for real customers across banking, credit, lending, and rewards, presenting engineering challenges in distributed systems, real-time data, payments infrastructure, fraud, and compliance. These challenges do not diminish as the company scales. We build on modern cloud infrastructure with a micro-services architecture, where teams move fast and own their domains end-to-end, from system design through deployment and on-call, with no handoff cultures.

Requirements

  • Elite individual contributor.
  • Willingness to operate at the edge of capability.
  • Ability to ship and own systems end to end (architecture, implementation, testing, production stability).
  • Serious ownership across the full surface area of systems.
  • Ability to shape how a system is built.
  • Treat AI tooling as essential, not experimental.
  • Aggressive use of modern tooling combined with strong fundamentals.
  • Build quality and coverage into work.
  • Write automated tests.
  • Own production systems.
  • Handle on-call as a natural extension of ownership.
  • Elevate the team through code reviews.
  • Pair deliberately.
  • Document architecture.
  • Surface missing requirements and edge cases.
  • Make autonomous day-to-day decisions.
  • Ability to operate across the full stack, from front-end interfaces to back-end APIs and infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

  • Built and scaled systems that handle meaningful transaction volume or data throughput.
  • Worked in financial services, payments, or another regulated industry where correctness isn't optional.
  • Had primary technical ownership of systems that matter, shaping the architecture, not just implementing against it.

Responsibilities

  • Ship and own systems end to end (architecture, implementation, testing, production stability).
  • Take ownership seriously across the full surface area of systems.
  • Shape how a system is built, not just contribute to it.
  • Treat AI tooling as essential for deploying meaningful improvements every day.
  • Build quality and coverage into how you work.
  • Write automated tests as a matter of course.
  • Own production systems and handle on-call as a natural extension of ownership.
  • Elevate the team around you through code reviews that catch architectural flaws, security risks, and edge cases, and teach the authors.
  • Pair deliberately.
  • Document architecture.
  • Surface missing requirements and edge cases before they become incidents.
  • Make day-to-day decisions autonomously to keep things moving.

Benefits

  • Equity participation for select roles.
  • Security screening, including a criminal records check and a credit check.
