Staff PCB Designer

TTM•Farmingdale, NY

About The Position

TTM Technologies is hiring a Staff PCB Designer to design moderate-to-complex printed circuit board layouts for digital, analog, power, and RF interconnect applications. The role covers PCB layout conceptualization, CAD implementation, detailed design, value engineering, and documentation for internal TTM programs. The designer will use Siemens Xpedition, PADS, and/or Cadence Allegro, apply electrical IPC standards and best practices, and consider manufacturing, product safety, EMI, and legacy-design maintenance needs. The position works with TTM management, Field Application Engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, signal integrity, program leadership, and NPI manufacturing teams. The candidate must have a background that would permit the U.S. Department of Defense to issue a Secret clearance when needed for a project.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience, with hands-on proficiency in Siemens PADS (VX2.8 or later), Siemens Xpedition (VX2.14 or later), and/or Cadence Allegro/OrCAD (17.4 or later).
  • An associate degree in Electrical Design/Drafting or a BS in Electronic Technology; related eCAD training, certification, or career experience may substitute for a degree program with 10 years of experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering design practices related to PCB electrical drafting and fabrication-drawing creation.
  • Familiarity with electrical design using IPC standards, including IPC-2221/3 and associated specifications.
  • Knowledge of the IPC Class III approach to design and manufacturing concerns.
  • Demonstrated experience with high-speed PCB design constraints, including differential pairs, routing topologies, controlled impedance, length-matched traces, and delay tuning.
  • Demonstrated experience with RF PCB routing complexities, including microstrip and coplanar waveguide transmission lines, signal isolation, via fencing, and RF routing structures.
  • Ability to communicate and interface effectively with technical and manufacturing personnel to resolve engineering tasks.
  • Ability to propose alternatives and resolve non-standard PCB design problems.
  • Understanding of vendor component datasheets for creating schematic libraries and/or PCB footprints.
  • Background that would permit the U.S. Department of Defense to issue a Secret clearance when necessary for a project.
  • Ability to comply with TTM export-control policies and applicable laws, including ITAR, EAR, and OFAC requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • A BS or related degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • Related PCB design experience in the aerospace and defense sectors.
  • CID/CID++ certification for PCB designers.
  • Direct design experience with multilayer CCA and flex PCB technologies.
  • Current knowledge of μ-via/HDI layout methodologies and best practices.
  • Recommended best-practice knowledge for analog and digital audio separation in PCB layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare PCB concept sketches and provide design suggestions and trade-offs to support layout estimates and initial engineering inputs.
  • Support changes to existing schematic diagrams using TTM tools such as OrCAD and/or DxDesigner.
  • Place and route components so electrical and physical specifications meet each PCB's detailed design requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews and work with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and process engineers on prototype and production PCBs.
  • Collaborate with signal integrity and other engineering disciplines, fellow designers, and program leadership.
  • Provide layout feedback to design engineers to support functionality and manufacturability.
  • Create fabrication and assembly drawings, parts lists, and updates to existing design documentation.
  • Create and maintain component libraries.
  • Generate ODB++, bills of materials, and PCB/CCA documentation required for board and assembly manufacture.
  • Manage product change notifications and documentation updates for redesigns.
  • Apply electrical standards and methodologies, including product safety and EMI considerations, during eCAD layout.
  • Apply IPC or vendor-specific standards to component and eCAD library standardization.
  • Design high-speed PCB constraints, including differential pairs, routing topologies, controlled impedance, length-matched traces, and delay tuning.
  • Implement RF transmission-line layout rules, signal-line isolation, via fencing, and RF routing structures.
  • Apply appropriate layout practices for analog/digital audio separation, multilayer CCA, flex PCB, and μ-via/HDI designs.
  • Consider stack-up materials and construction, impedance modeling, and manufacturing requirements.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefit options.
  • 401(k).
  • Flexible spending and health savings accounts.
  • Accident benefits, life insurance, and disability benefits.
  • Paid vacation and holidays.
  • An annual or quarterly company bonus may apply based on position assignment.
