Staff PCB Designer

TTM Technologies•Farmingdale, NY
•$101,807 - $179,040

About The Position

TTM Technologies is seeking a PCB Staff Design Engineer to design moderate-to-complex printed circuit board layouts for digital, analog, power, and RF interconnect applications. The role covers PCB layout conceptualization using Siemens Xpedition, PADs, and/or Cadence Allegro, detailed design, and value engineering in support of internal TTM programs. The designer is responsible for physical CAD implementation and documentation using electrical IPC standards and best practices, while considering manufacturing requirements and sustaining legacy designs. The position works with TTM management, Field Application Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and NPI Manufacturing teams. The position requires a background that would permit the U.S. Department of Defense to issue a Secret clearance when necessary for a project requiring one. The role also requires compliance with TTM export-control policies and applicable laws, including ITAR, EAR, and OFAC requirements. TTM offers health and well-being benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), flexible spending and health savings accounts, accident benefits, life insurance, disability benefits, paid vacation, and holidays. Benefits are available on the first of the month following the hire date; some positions offer only PTO and holiday benefits. An annual or quarterly company bonus may apply based on assignment, and alternative-shift positions may be eligible for a shift premium. The stated compensation range is $101,807–$179,040.

  • At least an associate degree in Electrical Design/Drafting or a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Technology. Related eCAD training, certification, or career experience may substitute for a degree program with 10 years of experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering design practices related to PCB electrical drafting and fabrication drawing creation.
  • Familiarity with electrical design using IPC standards, including IPC-2221/3 and associated specifications.
  • Knowledge of and methodology for applying an IPC Class III approach to design and manufacturing concerns.
  • Solid oral communication and interfacing skills with technical and manufacturing personnel to resolve engineering tasks.
  • Ability to propose alternatives and resolve non-standard PCB design problems.
  • Ability to understand vendor component datasheets for schematic-library and/or PCB-footprint creation.
  • Background that would permit the U.S. Department of Defense to issue a Secret clearance when necessary for a project requiring one.
  • Ability to comply with TTM export-control policies and applicable ITAR, EAR, and OFAC laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Related PCB design experience in the aerospace and defense sectors.
  • CID or CID++ certification for PCB designers.
  • Audio PCB layout experience applying analog/digital separation best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Create PCB concept sketches to support design-layout estimating.
  • Provide PCB design suggestions and trade-offs based on initial engineering inputs.
  • Support changes to existing schematic diagrams using TTM tools such as OrCAD and/or DxDesigner.
  • Place and route components while ensuring electrical and physical specifications meet detailed design requirements, using Siemens Xpedition/PADs and/or Cadence Allegro.
  • Participate in design reviews and interface with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and process engineers on prototype and production PCB designs in accordance with TTM standards and quality procedures.
  • Collaborate on assigned projects with signal-integrity and other engineering disciplines, fellow designers, and program leadership.
  • Provide layout feedback to design engineers to support PCB functionality and manufacturability.
  • Create fabrication and assembly drawings using AutoCAD 2023, parts lists, and updates to existing design documentation; create and maintain component libraries.
  • Generate ODB++, bills of materials, and PCB/CCA documentation required to manufacture boards and assemblies.
  • Maintain PCN change responsibilities for redesigns and documentation updates.
  • Apply product-safety and EMI considerations during eCAD layout, including applicable standards such as UL, CSA, and NEBS.
  • Standardize electrical components and eCAD libraries using IPC or vendor-specific standards.
  • Apply high-speed PCB design constraints, including differential pairs, routing topologies, controlled impedance, length-matched traces, and delay tuning.
  • Implement RF transmission-line layout rules, signal-line isolation practices, via fencing, and RF routing structures.
  • Apply analog and digital separation practices for audio layouts.
  • Design for multilayer CCA and flex PCB technologies and apply current μ-via/HDI layout methodologies.
  • Understand stack-up materials and construction and impedance-modeling requirements.
  • Identify ITAR products and restricted technical data, recognize foreign-person visitors, follow visitor authorization procedures, understand export requirements for shipments leaving the U.S., and manage vendor approvals for ITAR manufacturing and services.
