About The Position
The Staff Nurse (RN or LPN) supports the health and safety of acute psychiatric patients in a pediatric mental and behavioral health setting. The role includes medication administration, health assessments, infection control, documentation, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and consultation with direct care staff. Nurses respond to medical needs and help ensure safe, timely, compassionate care while supporting patient wellbeing and treatment.
Requirements
- Completion of a nursing program.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Kansas.
- At least 20 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Responsibilities
- Complete nursing assessments and documentation within required timelines.
- Perform ongoing assessments and monitor vital signs according to policy.
- Administer and accurately document medications, including psychotropic and PRN medications.
- Monitor infection control, respond to injuries and emergencies, and provide first aid as needed.
- Communicate with physicians, guardians, and treatment teams regarding patient health.
- Maintain accurate documentation of medical interventions, orders, and records.
- Partner with the staff nutritionist to address patient dietary needs and report allergies.
- Participate in treatment planning, staff training, and patient education groups.
- Assist with lab specimen collection and coordinate with the pharmacy to ensure timely service.
- Support patient safety and wellbeing by following KVC procedures and protocols.
