About The Position

University of Iowa Healthcare - Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a 100% Staff Nurse to join their busy tertiary care practice. This role is crucial for ensuring top-quality service for patients within a nationally ranked Ear, Nose, and Throat specialty department. The department focuses on head and neck cancers and collaborates with the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The mission is to provide exemplary clinical practice in various otolaryngology subspecialties, including general otolaryngology, communicative disorders, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, head and neck oncology, laryngology, otology/neurotology, pediatric otolaryngology, and rhinology. Requirements

• An Associate's Degree, a diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
• General computer skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Providing pre-operative education for Otolaryngology surgical patient populations from Pediatrics to Adult, including sending video links, phone calls, and in-person education.
• Applying nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
• Assessing patient health care preferences and expectations.
• Assisting with pre-operative education for Otolaryngology surgical patient populations from Pediatrics to Adult.
• Collaboratively coordinating the continuum of care across settings.
• Assisting in clinic with MA & MD staff weekly clinics.
• Possibly assisting with Minor Procedures within clinic, Minor Room and Surgicenter Procedures.
• Developing patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
• Implementing patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documenting/reporting interventions and patient/family response.
• Collaborating and integrating contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
• Assisting with coordinating transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
• Implementing nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Following universal precautions.
