About The Position

The Surgical & Trauma Care Unit at University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join their team. This unit provides patient-centered care for individuals with traumatic injuries and complex surgical conditions, including trauma, emergency surgical conditions, urologic surgery, and orthopedic surgery. The team fosters a holistic, patient-centered approach within a healthy work environment, emphasizing teamwork and providing resources for staff to excel. Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered care for patients with traumatic injuries and complex surgical conditions.
  • Manage patients with traumatic injuries from events such as motor vehicle accidents and falls.
  • Care for patients with multi-system traumatic injuries.
  • Treat patients with acute abdominal emergencies including bowel obstruction, perforation, and infection.
  • Manage complex wound care and surgical drains.
  • Provide treatment for ostomy creation and management, and fistulas.
  • Assist with hernia repair.
  • Provide post-operative care for urological procedures.
  • Care for patients undergoing urologic oncology and reconstructive surgeries.
  • Manage complex catheter and urinary diversion.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing reconstructive joint surgery (hip, knee, shoulder).
  • Care for patients undergoing spine surgery.
