The (Per Diem) Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. This role involves delivering patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process. The nurse assesses and evaluates patient care needs, applies critical thinking skills, and integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team is essential for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Responsibilities include prioritizing patient care, educating patients and caregivers, communicating effectively, and managing assignments within the Care Delivery Model. The role also emphasizes patient experience by role-modeling Relationship Centered Care principles, establishing therapeutic relationships, and initiating service recovery. Quality and safety are paramount, requiring the practice of safe and efficient patient-centered care, implementation of process improvement strategies, and adherence to high reliability principles. Operational duties may include performing charge nurse duties, coordinating with management for supplies and staffing, and accurate documentation. Professional development is encouraged through contributing to the environment of care, advancing clinical competence, incorporating ethical principles, and participating in shared decision-making and professional organizations.
