The (Per Diem) Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. This role involves delivering patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process based upon theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. The nurse will assess and evaluate patient care needs, apply critical thinking skills in patient care management, and integrate relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team is essential for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Responsibilities include prioritizing all aspects of patient care, educating patients and caregivers, communicating effectively, and managing assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing. The role also emphasizes patient experience by role-modeling Relationship Centered Care tenets, establishing therapeutic relationships, using evidence-based practices, initiating service recovery, and demonstrating caring and respect. Quality and safety are paramount, requiring practice of safe and efficient patient-centered care, implementation of process improvement strategies, engagement in peer review, collaboration on quality improvement projects, and adherence to principles of high reliability. Operational duties may include performing charge nurse duties, coordinating with management to ensure adequate supplies, and escalating resource deficits. Professional development is encouraged through contributing to the environment of care, advancing clinical competence, projecting a professional image, incorporating ethical principles, pursuing lifelong learning, acquiring new knowledge and skills, participating in shared decision-making, serving as a preceptor, and advancing as a clinical leader. The nurse will articulate the values of research and evidence-based practice and contribute to the profession of nursing through participation in professional organizations.
