The Staff Nurse I is a professional nurse who, with minimal supervision, assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for surgical patients and, when appropriate, their families in the Operating Room. The role supports the hospital’s mission, “A BETTER CHILDHOOD FOR ALL CHILDREN,” and calls for integrity, teamwork, innovation, commitment to personal development, and commitment to children. Children’s of Alabama is a Level 1 Trauma center with a full-service operating room performing procedures in orthopedics, otolaryngology (ENT), urology, neurosurgery, plastics, ophthalmology, oral surgery, general surgery, gastroenterology, dental, gynecology, pulmonary, and transplant surgery involving livers and kidneys. The OR team provides surgical care to one patient at a time in a sterile environment. A typical team includes a surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist (CRNA), circulating nurse, and scrub nurse or certified scrub technician. As a teaching institution, the hospital may also have residents, fellows, and physician assistants on the team. This is a full-time day-shift position at the Main Campus, scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with call.
