About The Position

Otis is looking for a highly motivated Staff Mechanical Engineer who demonstrates a strong sense of technical ownership and personal accountability. The selected candidate will be expected to independently drive complex engineering activities from definition through execution while consistently meeting commitments, schedules, and business objectives. The engineer supports design, development, optimization, and test of elevator components. This role focuses on structural integration of mechanical components associated with machines, governors, hydraulic systems, belt systems, and position reference systems for commercial elevator products.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering degree with 7+ years’ experience or a MA/MS degree with 5+ years’ experience
  • Strong engineering calculations and analytical capability, including FEA, with sound engineering judgment
  • Competency in modeling and analyzing mechanical structures using 3D CAD software, e.g., Creo, Ansys, SolidWorks, Catia, etc.
  • Utilize quality methodologies such as RRCA, DFMEA, and other tools to promote continuous improvement
  • Experience with hand calculations and statics
  • Technical leadership with ability to influence decisions and mentor other engineers
  • Effective problem solver with strong root-cause analysis and corrective action experience
  • Fluent in English
  • US Citizenship or permanent resident alien status required

  • Expertise in elevator mechanical component design and integration
  • Strong background in Design for Cost/VAVE
  • Product/Subsystem ownership including change management, roadmapping, …etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex mechanical engineering projects and activities
  • Take full accountability for technical performance, execution quality, and delivery of assigned commitments to meet agreed program timing, cost, reliability, and performance targets
  • Simultaneously lead and execute multiple propulsion engineering projects with competing priorities and aggressive timelines
  • Drive engineering work to perform advanced engineering analyses including structural analysis and engineering hand calculations
  • Lead root-cause investigations for complex technical, manufacturing, and field reliability issues
  • Develop robust corrective and preventive actions and ensure closure of identified issues
  • Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for propulsion-related mechanical systems
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to lower-lever engineers
  • Support prototype builds, test validation, launch activities, and production issue resolution
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, manufacturability, product quality, and cost optimization
  • Contribute to long-term platform strategy, standardization, and engineering best practices
