About The Position

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Systems Engineer. This role will support the Production Operation Systems and Technology team and serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for Production Operations concerning emerging technology. The ideal candidate will possess a bias for action, strategic thinking, data analysis, problem-solving skills, exceptional customer focus, strong communication abilities, and a solid understanding of Material Planning and Production Control practices. The qualified applicant will have practical knowledge and understanding of Manufacturing Engineering and expertise in the digital tools required for manufacturing. General skills and expectations for this role include a strong foundation in Manufacturing Engineering fundamentals, experience with MBOMs, OBOM, and Work Instructions, proficiency in digital tool principles, and knowledge of manufacturing flows and their integration with the shop floor and Global Supply Chain. The role involves developing cost/risk benefit summaries and recommendations for leadership, experience with project management and manufacturing schedules software tools, and an understanding of schedule waterfall builds with setbacks to independent demands. The position utilizes process improvement methodologies (e.g., value stream mapping, employee engagement techniques, flow reduction), experience with cost management (Earned Value, Milestone payments), and data analysis/data mining. The engineer will engage and collaborate with programs and functional organizations to understand manufacturing facilitation and scheduling requirements, demonstrating a proven ability to combine material flow management expertise with outstanding information knowledge and financial acumen. The role requires the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, taking on a critical function in developing and managing achievable production schedules for an entire factory servicing multiple businesses. The engineer will document, track, and monitor problems for timely resolution and possess strong organizational, planning, and decision-making skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members from diverse technical backgrounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Requirements

  • 12 Years of relevant experience with Bachelors in Science STEM Degree; 10 Years with Masters; 8 Years with PhD
  • Must be U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain an interim Secret Security level clearance pre-start, with the ability to obtain a final Secret Security level clearance post-start within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
  • Strong experience using software for manufacturing (ERP, MES, PLM/PDM)
  • Experience deploying new digital tools and technologies
  • Experience developing proposals for executive leadership and calculating ROI
  • Strong experience in Manufacturing Systems
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and demonstrate a high sense of urgency
  • Flexible work schedule to support out of service system testing.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
