About The Position

Lunar Outpost is seeking a Staff Harnessing Engineer to own the architecture, design, and execution of electrical wiring interconnect systems (EWIS) for lunar vehicle and spaceflight programs. The role provides technical leadership for harnessing design across flight systems, prototypes, and ground support equipment, delivering safe, reliable, and compliant interconnect solutions for human-rated and robotic missions. The engineer will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and work on the Lunar Terrain Vehicle and other programs in a fast-paced startup environment. The position is onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Where applicable, employees may work remotely on Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in electrical harnessing, wiring interconnect systems, or related aerospace electrical design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading harness design for complex aerospace or spaceflight systems.
  • Hands-on experience with high-voltage or high-power harnessing (>120 VDC or kW-class systems).
  • Direct experience working with NASA programs, payloads, or flight hardware; human-rated or Class A experience is preferred.
  • Strong background in electrical system design, including power distribution, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical integration principles affecting harness design, including packaging, tolerancing, thermal, and vibration considerations.
  • Experience with aerospace wiring standards and workmanship requirements.
  • Ability to lead technical efforts independently and make sound engineering judgments under schedule pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting Artemis, ISS, Commercial Crew, or comparable NASA programs.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC mitigation strategies and electrical bonding for space systems.
  • Experience with CAD and electrical design tools such as Altium Designer, SolidWorks, Zuken, or equivalent.
  • Experience with harness manufacturing, supplier oversight, and acceptance testing.
  • Prior experience in an aerospace startup or agile commercial space environment.
  • Experience contributing to internal process development or harness design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for electrical harnessing architecture, design, and integration across vehicle and subsystem levels.
  • Own end-to-end EWIS development, including requirements, schematics, harness layouts, drawings, analyses, and as-built configurations.
  • Define harnessing architectures for high-voltage, high-power, and signal-level systems in spaceflight and lunar surface environments.
  • Lead trade studies and design decisions involving wire types, connectors, shielding, grounding, separation, routing, and protective features.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering on routing, packaging, strain relief, bend-radius compliance, structural interfaces, and vehicle integration.
  • Author and review harness drawings, wire lists, pinouts, cable assemblies, and installation documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable NASA and aerospace standards, including NASA-STD-8739.4, NASA-STD-4009, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and MIL-STD-1553 where applicable.
  • Act as the primary technical interface for harnessing with NASA customers, partners, suppliers, and internal IPTs.
  • Support planning and execution of harness fabrication, inspection, integration, and testing, including continuity, EMI/EMC, and functional testing.
  • Provide technical oversight during vehicle integration, troubleshooting, rework, and anomaly resolution.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and establish harnessing design and documentation best practices.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 70% of premiums covered by the employer.
  • Three weeks of vacation per year.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with up to a 4% employer match on contributions.
  • 11 company-recognized paid holidays.
  • Parental leave.
  • Educational reimbursement opportunities supporting company objectives, continued learning, and career development.
