About The Position

SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Satellite Harnessing for its Starlink team. The role owns wire harness design from concept and component selection through production, qualification, and system integration. It involves multidisciplinary work across Starlink vehicles, with responsibility for harness assemblies, analysis, testing, documentation, and coordination with production and integration teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
Experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones.
Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
Must meet U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
Experience with wire-harness 3D design, installation drawings, formboard creation, wiring diagrams, 3D modeling of complex top-level assemblies, and 3D modeling and analysis of avionics enclosures and secondary structure.
At least 1 year of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, preferably as a team lead; internships count.
Strong teamwork skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines, with excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
Prior ownership of a complex component or assembly from initial design through high-volume production ramp.
Self-motivation, strong organizational skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop the electro-mechanical design of wire harnesses for Starlink vehicles.
Develop harness designs in a 3D NX CAD environment and manage technical trade studies to meet stakeholder objectives and internal design standards and requirements.
Generate electrical schematics for flight and qualification designs.
Own vehicle-level harness mechanical assemblies and close systems-integration trades related to those assemblies.
Perform analysis and physical mechanical and electrical testing of harnesses for thermal, loads, vibration, and shock to ensure flight qualification.
Document and communicate design, analysis, and testing results through design reviews.
Create and release appropriate harness manufacturing documentation and drawings on schedule.
Work with harness production and integration teams to ensure designs can be produced and installed on schedule in line with project goals.
Conduct R&D investigations and trade studies to pursue wire-harness mass and cost savings.
