About The Position

The Staff Hardware Engineer serves as a technical authority for ECU hardware requirements and specifications across GM’s vehicle portfolio, including electrified and Electric Vehicle applications. The role provides technical leadership for developing, maintaining, and improving hardware requirements, low-level software definitions, and Component Technical Requirements Specifications (CTRS). It leads complex projects, establishes alignment across engineering organizations, mentors engineers, and influences technical decisions without direct people-management responsibility. The engineer supports build-to-spec and build-to-print ECU designs across diverse vehicle and electrical architectures. The work enables standardized hardware designs, component commonization, requirements reuse, software implementation, and downstream verification and validation. The role also advances requirements-management practices through DOORS Next-Gen, automation, AI, and improved requirements documentation. The position operates across hardware, software, vehicle and electrical architecture, diagnostics, safety, sourcing, manufacturing, suppliers, and external engineering organizations. It applies systems thinking and business judgment to resolve complex technical interactions and turn ambiguity into clear decisions and executable outcomes.
