Persistent Systems is seeking a Staff Hardware Engineer to design, develop, and prototype electronic assemblies for next-generation radios and upgrades to current products. The role focuses on battery-powered, high-speed (GHz) digital circuit design for radios used in challenging environments. The engineer will own hardware work from concept through design verification testing (DVT) and provide technical support to manufacturing. This lead engineer will set design direction across a project or a small set of related projects and serve as a technical resource for others. The position includes defining system- and circuit-level requirements, designing and analyzing circuits, producing schematics and bills of materials, guiding PCB layout, coordinating with Mechanical Engineering on packaging and thermal constraints, and establishing test environments. The engineer will develop prototypes, verify system performance, provide technical leadership for subcontractor-developed projects, and ensure deliverables meet performance, cost, reliability, and schedule targets. The role also involves architecting hardware subsystems across products, promoting team standards and best practices, resolving complex technical challenges, collaborating with product management and adjacent engineering functions on tradeoffs, mentoring engineers, and contributing to hiring decisions. The work is supported by RF and digital laboratory infrastructure, including high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, spectrum and vector network analyzers, thermal chambers, and characterization fixtures, as well as in-house manufacturing support.
