About The Position

Cenovus is currently looking for a Staff Geologist to join our Conventional Heavy Oil team located in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Alberta Geoscience Manager, Conventional Heavy Oil, the Senior Geologist will be accountable to work in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure reservoir development plans are optimized to meet Cenovus business needs, enable the successful execution of our development plans, and support our long-term strategy.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • B.Sc. degree or higher in Geology with 12+ years of progressive industry experience.
  • Registered member of APEGA or another provincial professional geoscience organization.
  • Proficient in industry-standard geoscience software including Geographix, Accumap, GeoScout, and Petrel.
  • Proven track record in prospect generation, asset evaluation, and development planning.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to support multidisciplinary asset development initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of geology, sequence stratigraphy, and clastic depositional systems, including exposure to Mannville Group stratigraphy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geological evaluations using core data, well logs, drilling, and production information to identify and mature new drilling prospects.
  • Provide technical insights and recommendations to support project strategies and development decisions.
  • Prepare and present technical recommendations and project updates to leadership through formal review processes.
  • Evaluate Crown, freehold, and industry-held land opportunities for acquisition, divestiture, and strategic development.
  • Support Long Range Planning (LRP) and annual budgeting activities through technical and economic analysis.
  • Lead continuous improvement and workflow optimization initiatives to enhance geoscience, reservoir engineering, and project economics.
  • Mentor junior team members while promoting consistent development practices and effective cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations for reviews, gate milestones, lookbacks, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
