About The Position

Grafana Labs is hiring a remote Staff FrontEnd Engineer for the Usage squad within Application Core Services (AppCore), part of the Platform Foundations department. The role is focused approximately 75% on frontend work and 25% on backend work, building and operating the systems that support customer usage calculations, billing, provisioning, cloud marketplace integrations, and account management. The team develops full-stack web applications, customer portals, backend services, APIs, and integrations across Grafana platforms and external business systems. The position works at the intersection of product, platform, and business operations, with responsibility for production systems that directly affect customer workflows and internal stakeholders. The engineer will lead major projects, coordinate across service boundaries, help shape technical direction, and improve reliability, developer experience, and operational resilience. Grafana Labs is remote-first and global; candidates should be located in the US or Canada.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of fully remote work experience.
  • Experience working on a large SaaS platform and handling distributed systems concerns such as scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability.
  • Strong professional experience with backend technologies such as Golang and Node.js, as well as modern frontend development with TypeScript and React.
  • Care about developer experience, user experience, and product quality.
  • Experience delivering projects from requirements gathering and idea development through shipping a product to customers, with self-direction.
  • Ability to write clean, robust, well-tested software that other engineers can understand, operate, and maintain.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative, asynchronous environment.
  • Ability to break complex challenges into modular solutions and iterative learning loops, including MVP delivery and feedback gathering.
  • Willingness to work across teams, align plans with other squads and external stakeholders, communicate plans transparently, and incorporate feedback.
  • Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Helm, Terraform, or Jsonnet.
  • Comfort collaborating asynchronously across time zones and taking ownership of critical systems.
  • Ability to lead major projects, coordinate across service boundaries, and help define technical direction.
  • Ability to work through ambiguous lifecycle requirements and communicate technical tradeoffs to stakeholders and product teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-volume usage metering, billing engines, or customer-facing cost management applications.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining integrations with third-party business systems such as NetSuite, Salesforce, or cloud marketplaces.
  • Experience with frontend component libraries, design systems, and modern CSS-in-JS tooling.
  • Familiarity with cloud marketplace integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP) and SaaS provisioning or tenancy patterns.
  • Experience working on SaaS provisioning, tenancy, regional expansion, plugin rollout, or customer lifecycle systems.
  • Experience with incident response involving configuration drift, partial failure, or cross-service state mismatch.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, operate, and evolve full-stack web applications, customer-facing account portals, and backend services for customer usage and billing workflows.
  • Build and maintain backend APIs using Golang and Node.js, and user interfaces using TypeScript and React.
  • Design and maintain integrations between Grafana systems and external business platforms, including NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces.
  • Develop and automate business logic for customer usage metering, pricing structures, promotions, and billing reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with product management, DealOps, GTM, Support, and AppCore squads to deliver end-to-end features.
  • Address technical debt, optimize CI/CD pipelines, strengthen test coverage, and improve system observability and operational resilience.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, and shape pragmatic solutions to complex systems challenges.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, technical design, OnCall improvements, and long-term simplification of stack operations.
  • Own and improve production behavior, including runbooks, dashboards, alerts, reconciliation safety, rollout controls, and recovery procedures.
  • Debug across service boundaries and make careful changes to systems that affect customer stacks.
  • Write efficient, readable, maintainable code and design new microservices or systems.
  • Collaborate with teammates and other departments to reach consensus, and coordinate with product and UX when needed.
  • Respond to customer requests and feedback.
  • Participate in a follow-the-sun OnCall rotation when ready.
  • Participate in team decisions such as roadmap planning and prioritization.
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic development practices thoughtfully across design, implementation, testing, documentation, and operations, and identify opportunities to embed agentic capabilities in services.

Benefits

  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) for all roles.
  • Global annual leave policy of 30 days per year, including 3 days reserved for Grafana Shutdown Days, subject to local legislation.
  • In-person onboarding.
