About The Position

SK Hynix Memory Solutions is seeking a Staff Firmware Test Developer to join their team. This role involves creating comprehensive firmware verification plans for NVMe standards, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specifications. The developer will design and deploy various types of automation tests using Python to validate security protocols and firmware functionality. Responsibilities include executing end-to-end testing across different platforms, analyzing regression failures, root-causing firmware bugs, and collaborating with firmware development teams. The role also requires owning test reporting and communicating technical challenges to engineering teams and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Digital Sciences, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in an engineering-related occupation.
  • Experience in SSD firmware testing and/or development.
  • Experience in SSD or NAND Flash development industry.
  • Code development using Python, C/C++, and Javascript.
  • Experience with storage industry protocols including NVMe, ONFI, and TCG Opal.
  • Experience with Agile development, GIT development flow, Branch management and tools.
  • Experience with Test automation, testing methodologies and test tools.
  • Experience with Automated build, continuous integration, and test automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Create comprehensive firmware verification plans covering NVMe standards, enterprise SSD protocols, and customer specifications (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and deploy white-box, grey-box, and black-box automation tests using Python to validate security protocols and firmware functionality on a module-by-module basis.
  • Execute and own end-to-end testing across diverse platforms, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and prototype SSD hardware.
  • Utilize deep SSD domain expertise to analyze weekly regression failures, root-cause complex firmware bugs, and drive issue resolution.
  • Partner closely with firmware development teams during code reviews to improve software architecture, expand test coverage, and elevate overall code quality.
  • Own test reporting and articulately communicate technical challenges, solutions, and mitigation plans to both engineering teams and management.
