About The Position

Solance is building financial services for complex corporate clients and high-service-level banking sectors underserved by traditional banks. The company is seeking an EMI authorisation in Ireland and aims to evolve into a fully licensed bank.

The Staff Engineer will join as a founding engineer in a new Dublin-based technology team, report directly to the CTO, and lead the design and development of a greenfield, cloud-based banking service using a modern Java-based automated stack. The role offers substantial ownership across architecture, engineering culture, infrastructure automation, user experience, security, and compliance. The engineer will work closely with the CTO and Principal Engineer to shape the company's technology vision and build a scalable, resilient, secure platform.

The position combines hands-on coding with architectural leadership, mentorship, business collaboration, quality assurance, technology research, and security and compliance work. The engineering team emphasizes automation, technical excellence, business curiosity, mentorship, and building scalable solutions.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of deep experience in agile software design and development for AWS Cloud.
• Extensive experience with deployment, release, testing, observability, and alerting principles and standards.
• A proven record of prioritizing automation to improve velocity and quality.
• Extensive experience establishing and improving standards and mentoring software engineers in design, implementation, testing, automation, code quality, and cybersecurity.
• Extensive experience leading engineering initiatives in close collaboration with business team members.
• Significant experience translating business requirements into technical requirements through close business collaboration.
• Extensive experience developing API frameworks, zero-downtime releases, seamless rollbacks, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Strong experience assessing and implementing improved development tooling and practices.

Nice To Haves

• At least 5 years of experience in some or all of banking, payment processing, KYC, AML, customer onboarding, UX, and data analytics.
• Expertise in multiple programming languages and frameworks; proficiency in Python, Java, and React or React Native is a significant plus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the creation and evolution of technology architecture, ensuring scalability, resilience, security, and performance.
• Coach engineering teams and guide them on software development best practices and engineering processes.
• Write code and contribute to the development of core features and functionality.
• Work with business subject-matter experts, product designers, and other stakeholders to align technology with business objectives.
• Support robust testing practices and ensure coding standards are followed throughout the development lifecycle.
• Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions that can improve the company's offerings.
• Work with compliance and risk team members to implement measures that protect sensitive financial data.
• Lead engineering initiatives in close collaboration with business team members.
• Develop API frameworks and support zero-downtime releases, seamless rollbacks, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Build a robust site reliability engineering and automation environment.
