Staff Engineer

Micron Technology•Boise, ID

About The Position

The Staff Engineer is responsible for starting up, developing, and optimizing equipment processes to improve product quality and reliability. The role focuses on process yield improvement, cost reduction, productivity improvement, risk management, and resolving manufacturing-line problems. The engineer identifies, diagnoses, and resolves equipment-related problems and coordinates process, equipment, and material evaluation and optimization initiatives, implementing changes at the process step. The position leads or participates in continuous yield-improvement and cost-reduction activities; validates and deploys qualified new process baselines, including processes, tools, and materials for new product introduction; and supports SPC/FDC/RMS/APC and site-to-site portability. Responsibilities also include managing and auditing material suppliers, supporting internal and external audits, and developing new or modified process formulations. The role defines processing or handling equipment requirements and specifications, reviews manufacturing techniques, coordinates design requirement reviews, and evaluates test data to determine appropriate process or material specification limits and variables. The engineer may work on activities ranging from pilot plant through full-scale manufacturing and conceives and plans projects involving new concepts, equipment automation technology, and approaches for developing or improving processes. The employer will accept a bachelor's degree in a specified engineering or science field, followed by five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the offered role or a related occupation.
