About The Position

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-technology company focused on protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation and synthetic reality technologies. The Staff Power Systems Engineer will lead development of the Ranger aircraft power system from concept through production. The role involves designing and integrating high-power systems for performance and reliability in harsh environments, enabling an uninterruptible power system, and guiding a cross-functional team through architecture and execution. The engineer will also help build the team, mentor engineers, and provide design review and program execution leadership in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Power system design experience on a large vehicle, aircraft, or equivalent system such as a rocket, satellite, or submarine.
10 or more years of relevant experience.
Experience delivering power systems and power electronic products to market.
Proficiency with electrical engineering development tools, simulation, and test equipment.
Strong technical fundamentals and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

Define and execute the vision of the Ranger power system from concept to production.
Design, develop, and integrate high-power systems tailored for performance and reliability in harsh environments.
Enable an uninterruptible power system.
Conduct make-versus-buy trade studies; select, test, and integrate modules for aircraft use.
Verify that system performance and reliability requirements are met.
Debug complex electrical-design, environmental, manufacturing, and other problems.
Help build the team and lead multiple engineers dedicated to power system design.
Drive a cross-functional team to execute the top-level architecture.
Provide mentorship, design reviews, and program execution leadership.
