About The Position

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an experienced, journey-level Engineer to join its Hydroelectric Maintenance and Engineering Team. The position provides engineering support across Metropolitan’s Water System Operations facilities, including Colorado River Aqueduct pumping plants, water treatment plants, hydroelectric plants, and associated conveyance and distribution facilities. The role combines technical analysis with hands-on field engineering and regular travel to Metropolitan facilities to verify system data, assess equipment conditions, and investigate system anomalies and equipment failures. The Engineer leads critical power system studies, maintains power system models, develops protective device settings, and supports electrical safety and regulatory compliance. The position also provides engineering expertise for medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment up to 230 kV, including occasional evaluation of diagnostic test results and equipment performance to support safe and reliable operations. The position is based at the F.E. Weymouth Water Treatment Plant in La Verne, California, and Metropolitan’s current practice is a hybrid schedule, typically two days per week in person and the remaining days remote. The schedule may change based on organizational needs and is subject to a telework policy scheduled for negotiations. The stated work schedule is a 4/10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The announcement indicates one opening and that the recruitment may result in an eligibility list.
