About The Position

Moog is seeking a Staff Engineer, Power Electronics, to serve as the technical authority for spacecraft avionics programs. The role establishes and enforces architecture standards, leads multi-program risk and schedule management, resolves complex technical challenges, and mentors project teams to support on-time, on-budget delivery of flight-grade hardware. The position is onsite in Phoenix, Arizona, and reports to the Manager, Project Engineering. The engineer will oversee requirements management, traceability, and verification strategies; lead technical reviews through closure; coordinate cross-functional teams; and improve project-engineering processes, including change control, configuration management, earned-value reporting, and lessons-learned capture. The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Moog describes its workplace as inclusive and says employees may receive compensation beyond base salary, including potential annual bonuses, an employee stock purchase plan, open paid time off, and region-specific benefits. The stated salary range for Phoenix is $150,000 to $185,000 annually.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of hands-on systems engineering experience in spacecraft avionics or equally complex electronic systems, specifically involving power electronics at the circuit-card and sub-assembly level.
  • Proven track record leading multiple concurrent programs, defining architecture, and delivering flight-grade hardware.
  • Deep expertise in at least three of the following: requirements management, PCB/FPGA design and review, spacecraft electronics, complex system design, and avionics testing.
  • Strong proficiency with one or more program-management and requirements tools or methodologies, such as MS Project, JIRA/Confluence, EVMS, JAMA, or Polarian.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, drive risk-mitigation activities, and manage change-control processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including presenting to executives, writing clear technical reports, and negotiating trade-offs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with space standards and interfaces such as SpaceWire, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, or RS-422/TTL.
  • Background in environmental qualification, including vibration, thermal-vacuum, EMI/EMC, and lab automation.
  • Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001 or ECSS, or with advanced DFx methodologies.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Define and enforce avionics architecture standards across programs, including interfaces, performance budgets, and power/system partitioning.
  • Oversee requirements management, traceability, and verification strategies company-wide.
  • Chair and drive technical reviews, including preliminary, critical, qualification, and flight-build gates, through closure.
  • Lead multi-program risk management, including risk registers and corrective-action plans.
  • Serve as the escalation point for system-level anomalies and orchestrate root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate hardware, firmware/FPGA, software, test, manufacturing, and supplier teams to harmonize processes and deliverables.
  • Mentor and coach Lead and Senior Project Engineers, share best practices, conduct training, and foster continuous improvement.
  • Improve project-engineering workflows for change control (ECR/ECO), configuration management, earned-value reporting, and lessons-learned capture.

Benefits

  • Annual bonuses may be available.
