Staff Engineer, Electrical Design

Celestica International LP•Austin, TX

About The Position

The Staff Engineer, Electrical Design develops electrical systems and circuits for a range of applications, researching concepts and documenting them in schematics and system specifications. The role tests, simulates, validates, and qualifies designs, makes adjustments as needed, and provides support during manufacturing. It works with designers, customers, manufacturing engineering, and project leadership to deliver robust, high-quality products, incorporating feedback from manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design, and simulation reviews. The engineer leads the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions across multiple domains, provides technical direction to engineers, and may serve as a recognized expert in one or more areas. The work also includes engaging with customers and suppliers, supporting strategic program deployment, promoting industry best practices, and producing technical designs, reports, and documentation. This position is based in an office environment in Austin, Texas; occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

  • 4 to 6 years of experience in a similar role or industry.
  • Experience with PCB design fundamentals, including single-ended and differential signals.
  • Proficiency managing signal integrity challenges, including signal loss, impedance control, and near-end and far-end crosstalk.
  • Experience with single-ended and differential signaling up to 50Gbps.
  • Experience working with component models (Touchstone files) and cascading them into comprehensive system models for simulation.
  • Experience simulating digital interfaces such as FPGA-to-DRAM and SERDES, and analog paths from signal driver to DUT across PCB, connector, and cable.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D simulation tools such as ADS, ANSYS HFSS, or Sigrity.
  • Ability to calculate electrical lengths for signal matching.
  • Familiarity with frequency-domain (S-parameter) and time-domain signal interpretation to assess application suitability.
  • Proficiency generating and interpreting data-eye diagrams up to 50Gbps for NRZ and PAM4.
  • Proficiency with Allegro or similar layout tools and schematics.
  • Expertise in PCB stack-up design, including fabrication limitations and cost trade-offs.
  • Experience with high-frequency board materials.
  • Significant experience measuring signal performance in a lab, including TDR and VNA measurements.
  • Ability to develop test fixtures, including custom test boards and ad hoc probing solutions for troubleshooting.
  • Experience balancing cost and performance trade-offs in signal-path design.
  • Experience with flex circuit design for high-speed signaling.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
