About The Position

We are seeking an accomplished Staff Embedded Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise in developing next-generation automotive infotainment platforms. The role designs, integrates, and optimizes embedded audio software below the application layer for a QNX-based infotainment HPC running on Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs. Its scope includes the audio DSP stack, QNX audio resource managers and drivers, SoC-level audio hardware enablement, and audio HAL/middleware integration. The goal is to deliver robust, low-latency platforms supporting multi-zone playback, voice and phone integration, navigation and ADAS chimes, and other advanced in-vehicle audio experiences. The engineer leads audio subsystem bring-up and integration across new SoC platforms and hardware revisions, collaborates with Qualcomm, QNX/BlackBerry, hardware, and application-layer teams, and resolves complex audio issues across the stack. The role also establishes automotive-grade quality practices, mentors engineers, reviews designs and code, sets technical standards, contributes to roadmap planning and hiring, and drives root-cause analysis of production and field issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of professional embedded software development experience, with significant focus on audio software on Qualcomm Snapdragon or similar Qualcomm SoC platforms.
  • Deep hands-on experience with the Qualcomm audio stack, including ADSP/QDSP6, AudioReach or QACT/ACDB tooling, and integration into a QNX environment.
  • Hands-on QNX software development experience, including resource managers (io-audio or equivalent), QNX audio driver architecture, IPC (message passing and pulses), and BSP-level bring-up.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills and comfort working across QNX resource manager/driver, HAL, and DSP firmware/configuration boundaries.
  • Solid understanding of audio signal chains, including codecs, amplifiers, DSPs, sample rate conversion, mixing/routing, echo cancellation, and low-latency audio paths.
  • Experience debugging with tools such as JTAG/T32, QNX Momentics/System Analysis Toolkit, oscilloscopes/audio analyzers, logic analyzers, and Qualcomm-specific diagnostic/tracing tools.
  • Track record of technical leadership, including driving architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and working across hardware/software boundaries.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in automotive or another safety- or quality-regulated embedded industry, such as aerospace, medical devices, or industrial.
  • Experience with QNX Platform for Digital Cockpits (QNX PDC) or QNX Hypervisor in an automotive HPC context.
  • Familiarity with automotive audio standards and use cases, including multi-zone audio, active noise cancellation, engine sound enhancement, external microphone/speaker arrays, and phone/voice assistant integration.
  • Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 as applied to software development, including relevant QNX safety-certified configurations.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR Adaptive or other automotive middleware frameworks and their interfaces with a QNX-based audio subsystem.
  • Experience with CI/CD for embedded targets and automated audio validation/test frameworks.
  • Experience using generative AI tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot to accelerate embedded software development, including code generation/review, debugging, test-case generation, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead bring-up and integration of audio subsystems on new SoC platforms and hardware revisions, collaborating with Qualcomm FAE/support, QNX/BlackBerry support, and internal hardware teams.
  • Design and implement low-latency, multi-zone, multi-stream audio routing architectures for simultaneous navigation prompts, phone calls, media playback, ADAS chimes, and multi-speaker or multi-zone output.
  • Debug and resolve audio issues across the stack, including pops and clicks, latency, synchronization, underruns and overruns, power-state transitions, and audio-video synchronization.
  • Define and enforce automotive-grade quality practices covering functional safety considerations, startup and boot-time budgets, resource and power constraints, and long-term serviceability.
  • Collaborate with application-layer teams, including Android Automotive/AAOS or other infotainment frameworks, as well as hardware/EE teams and Qualcomm partner engineering.
  • Mentor mid-level and senior engineers, conduct design and code reviews, and establish technical standards and best practices for the audio domain within base software.
  • Partner with the manager on technical roadmap planning, estimation, and hiring and growth of the team's audio competency.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of field and production audio issues.
  • Support the architecture and technical roadmap for audio software on a QNX-based infotainment HPC with a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, including ADSP/QDSP6 audio DSP, QNX audio drivers and resource managers, and audio HAL/middleware integration.
