About The Position

Shure is hiring an Engineer Associate Staff, Embedded Audio Software to build the software foundation for intelligent audio products. The role focuses on embedded software, real-time audio, digital signal processing (DSP), and machine learning. The engineer will architect software for performance-critical embedded platforms and collaborate with DSP, ML, systems, research, data, product, and engineering enablement teams to deliver reliable, production-ready audio capabilities. The position also provides architectural leadership, mentors engineers, and influences how next-generation audio features are developed across products and platforms. The role is preferred to be hybrid and based at Shure’s Niles, Illinois headquarters. The engineer will develop real-time embedded Linux application software for multi-core ARM platforms, including multithreaded architectures, control logic, communication frameworks, and interfaces among DSP, ML, hardware, networking, and user-facing applications. Responsibilities also include leading project planning and execution, troubleshooting complex systems, integrating and optimizing algorithms and models, and developing tools and workflows for accelerated development and validation. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States full-time. Shure will not sponsor work visas for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 8 years of professional experience; alternatively, 6 years with a master’s degree or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Strong C++ software development skills, including object-oriented design, software architecture, and development of scalable, maintainable software systems.
  • Extensive experience with software architecture and system design for large-scale or complex embedded applications.
  • Strong understanding of real-time embedded system constraints, memory usage, CPU utilization, synchronization, and meeting processing deadlines.
  • Extensive experience with modern software engineering practices, including source control, automated testing, continuous integration, and code review processes.
  • Experience developing software for Linux-based embedded platforms.
  • Experience leading technical efforts, mentoring other engineers, and providing architectural direction.
  • Experience developing and optimizing multithreaded software on embedded Linux systems, including multi-core ARM platforms.
  • Experience designing communication protocols, control frameworks, inter-process communication mechanisms, or distributed software systems.
  • Experience building software tools, automation frameworks, validation infrastructure, or data-centric applications.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; Shure will not sponsor work visas.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with real-time audio processing pipelines and low-latency software architectures.
  • Experience integrating DSP algorithms and machine learning models into embedded products.
  • Experience with machine learning deployment technologies, model optimization, inference frameworks, or production ML systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based development workflows, data infrastructure, or machine learning engineering practices.
  • Interest, education, or experience in audio engineering, audio production, music technology, or professional audio systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead embedded software architecture, development, optimization, and maintenance for real-time DSP and machine learning solutions, promoting scalable and reusable designs across products and platforms.
  • Lead software project planning and execution, including scope, effort estimates, risk management, and milestone delivery.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze root causes, and resolve complex software, embedded system, performance, and integration issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers in software architecture, design patterns, embedded systems, and engineering best practices.
  • Partner with DSP and ML engineers to integrate audio algorithms and models into embedded processing pipelines; develop deployment, configuration, control, and monitoring infrastructure; and assist with inference optimization and model lifecycle strategies.
  • Collaborate with research, data, and engineering enablement teams to develop tools, infrastructure, and workflows that accelerate development and validation.
  • Translate product requirements, customer needs, and system constraints into software architectures and implementation strategies with product teams.
