Staff Electrical Engineer

Ametek, Inc.•Oak Ridge, TN

About The Position

The Staff Electrical Engineer is responsible for the electronic design and development of ORTEC brand nuclear instrumentation and measurement systems for radiation detection and radioisotope identification. The role focuses on board-level circuit design, particularly mixed-signal electronics such as low-noise amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, digital circuitry, and power supplies. The position covers the full design process, from conceptualization, simulation, and prototyping through implementation, validation, verification, and performance characterization. The engineer also supports system integration, compliance testing, and documentation, and works with Manufacturing, Customer Service, and Marketing to support product requirements and performance.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of relevant electronics design experience.
  • Experience with mixed-signal and/or analog circuit design, including amplifier circuits, active and passive filters, transistor circuits, linear and switching power supplies, impedance matching and transformation, and A/D converters.
  • Experience with digital circuit design, including microprocessors and FPGAs.
  • Experience implementing digital signal processing within electronic systems.
  • Proficiency with electronic design and simulation tools, including schematic capture and SPICE-based simulation software.
  • Experience with system-level software and hardware integration.
  • Experience designing high-accuracy, low-noise measurement circuits, including component selection, schematic capture, modeling, and layout techniques.
  • Experience selecting electronic components and designing circuits for cryogenic temperature environments.
  • Experience designing instrumentation for nuclear measurement applications.
  • Ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and reduce costs; ability to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to present technical information effectively to customers and employees.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • Strong organizational, data collection, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to take on increasing technical leadership responsibilities.
