About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Counseling, this position works within Wellness Services to provide regular consultation and effective psychological interventions with Northwest students. The role facilitates the optimal functioning and wellness of students by providing individual and group counseling. It requires effectiveness in counseling people from diverse backgrounds and identities and contributing to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with others regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or religious beliefs. The position works closely with stakeholders across campus, ensures student concerns are addressed appropriately through psychological assessment and referrals, and maintains documentation in Point and Click/Electronic Health Record. The role also provides crisis intervention services during and after office hours, participates in proactive outreach through programming, workshops, and presentations, and stays knowledgeable about current trends in counseling through continuing education. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Provisionally licensed or licensed in the state of Missouri or eligible to apply for licensure.
  • Excellent communication, counseling, and people skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience in a mental health/counseling setting

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the optimal functioning and wellness of NW students by providing individual and group counseling.
  • Works closely with stakeholders across campus including, but not limited to, the offices of Student Affairs; Athletics; International Programs; and University Police Department.
  • Ensures the concerns of students are addressed in an appropriate manner through psychological assessment procedures, making referrals when indicated.
  • Promotes responsible care of Wellness Service’s students by maintaining documentation in Point and Click/Electronic Health Record of contacts, consultations, and referrals in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Ensures the needs of students are addressed in emergency situations by providing crisis intervention services during office hours and after hours as needed.
  • Provides programing, workshops, and presentations by participating in proactive outreach.
  • Remains knowledgeable about current trends in counseling, psychotherapy and student development through presentations, publications, and memberships in professional organizations and obtaining Continuing Education (CE’s) as required by the state licensing and regulatory board.
