About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Staff Civil Engineer in Oakland, California to support dam, levee, and hydropower infrastructure projects as part of our industry-leading Pacific Dams / Hydro practice. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated early-career engineer to build a strong technical foundation while contributing to projects that enhance the safety, resilience, and long-term performance of critical infrastructure systems throughout Northern California and the western United States. The successful candidate will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists to support analysis and design efforts for a wide range of dam and water resources facilities. This position provides hands-on experience across multiple phases of project development, including planning, design, construction support, and regulatory coordination, with strong mentorship and clear pathways for professional growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with grading layout and design.
  • Exposure to takeoff and quantity development for earthwork projects.
  • Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree, or pursuing a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain within 6-12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a member of teams providing analysis and design support for technical and feasibility studies for a variety of water infrastructure projects.
  • Development of plans, technical specifications, and quantities for construction cost estimates.
  • Create design models in AutoCAD Civil 3D for the purposes of analysis, construction plans and cost estimates.
  • Participate as field and/or office engineering technician during construction projects.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and memoranda.
  • Coordinate design elements with internal and external multi-disciplinary teams.
