About The Position

Coupang’s Inventory Platform organization builds critical services and platforms that optimize customer orders from placement through successful delivery. The team addresses the architectural challenges of building highly available, scalable systems that handle billions of order and delivery transactions and support Coupang’s growing Product Commerce business. Its work includes improving order reconciliation through technology to deliver products to millions of online shopping customers.

The role is for an experienced engineer to design and build large-scale, multi-tiered distributed services. The engineer will help ensure the platform’s quality, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence, and collaborate with other teams to make the platform open and extensible.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a closely related field.
• At least 8 years of experience in backend software development.
• Experience working in cloud environments, particularly AWS.
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining highly available, distributed systems.
• Exposure to at least one SQL or NoSQL database system, such as Cassandra or MySQL.
• Strong attention to detail and hands-on engineering approach.

Nice To Haves

• Experience developing and operating backend services and web applications.
• Experience building complex, high-performance, highly available distributed software systems successfully delivered to customers.
• Strong familiarity with Java and the Spring Framework, as well as experience in an AWS environment.
• Extensive experience managing mission-critical services with high throughput and low latency.
• Engineering leadership skills to coach and lead high-performing software engineers and keep them motivated.
• Excellent communication skills for working with end users and technical and business teams to gather requirements, describe product features, and develop technical designs that achieve business goals.
• Knowledge of Agile software engineering practices and patterns across the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, build processes, testing, and live-site operations.
• Demonstrated leadership in a cross-functional, highly collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and build large-scale, multi-tiered distributed services.
• Deliver scalable systems and services with high-quality architecture and design.
• Benchmark the platform, collect metrics, and publish results.
• Measure and ensure platform reliability and uptime against 99.995% guarantees.
• Estimate capacity and provision clusters for different customer workloads.
• Monitor production incidents and provide platform alerting.
• Analyze open-source platform components and code through hands-on investigation.
• Investigate critical system issues, proactively address related root causes, and improve operational excellence.
• Collaborate with other teams to make the platform open and extensible.
