Staff Attorney -Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC)-Non-Tenured (NT)
About The Position
The Administrative Office of the Courts is the operational arm of the Judicial Branch, which employs nearly 3,300 personnel supporting 406 elected justices, judges, and circuit court clerks. The Graves County 52nd Judicial Circuit Court has an immediate need for a Staff Attorney. Under the direct supervision of a judge, the Staff Attorney provides legal support relating to the court’s docket. The work includes reviewing legal briefs and appellate and high court records, conducting legal research, preparing memoranda, analyzing cases, proofreading legal documents, and taking notes. Work may be performed in an office or courtroom, and in-state travel may be required, primarily within the judge’s jurisdiction.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Must be licensed and in good standing with the Kentucky Bar Association (KBA). Attorneys holding a current license in a U.S. state other than Kentucky must take every necessary step to become licensed with the KBA within 18 months of employment.
- Proficient legal research and writing skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Review legal briefs and appellate records, ensuring thorough understanding and organized documentation.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis of case materials for court cases.
- Prepare and edit drafts of opinions, orders, and judgments under guidance.
- Proofread legal documents.
- Communicate with attorneys and pro se litigants at the judge’s direction.
- Monitor recent legal developments and decisions and provide summaries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
