PART-TIME STAFF ATTORNEY: RE-ENTRY (Pittsfield)
About The Position
Community Legal Aid (CLA) is seeking a part-time Staff Attorney to assist individuals returning from incarceration with re-entry issues. The attorney will focus on sealing, expunging, or correcting Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI), representing clients in housing denial appeals based on CORI, and helping individuals overcome employment barriers related to their CORI, including state agency background checks. In addition to direct client representation, the role involves community outreach and education, including off-site intake hours, and collaboration with community partners. The position is based in CLA's Pittsfield office.
Requirements
- Law students currently in their third year of law school, recent law school graduates, and more experienced attorneys are eligible to apply.
- Demonstrated commitment to poverty law and social justice work.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting.

Responsibilities
- Help formerly incarcerated individuals seal, expunge, or correct their Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).
- Represent people seeking to overturn housing denials based on their CORI.
- Assist individuals with barriers to employment resulting from their CORI, including denials involving state agency-level background checks.
- Engage in active community outreach and education.
- Hold regular intake hours off site.
- Work closely with community partners.
