About The Position

The Workers Compensation Staff Attorney provides legal defense to policyholders and supports NJM’s Workers Compensation Claims Department. This role involves protecting the interests of NJM policyholders in litigated workers’ compensation matters through settlement or decision. The attorney will work with staff on legal documents, provide case updates and guidance to policyholders and claims staff, and build relationships with internal and external customers. Collaboration with other stakeholders in defending claims and developing litigation strategies is key. The position also requires handling complex litigation and performing other assigned duties.

Workers Compensation experience, including multiple jurisdictions
Juris Doctor degree
License to practice law in the state of New Jersey

Responsibilities

Protect the interest of NJM policyholders in litigated workers’ compensation matters through the point of settlement or decision
Work with staff in the preparation of pleadings, motions, briefs and other documents
Provide case status updates, recommendations, and legal guidance to policyholders and Workers’ Compensation Claims staff
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
Work collaboratively with other enterprise stakeholders in the defense of Workers’ Compensation claims
Handle complex litigation and develop litigation strategies in collaboration with policyholders
Perform other duties as assigned
