About The Position

The Health and Environmental and Safety (HES) Section is responsible for ensuring compliance with appropriate health, environmental, and safety legislation. The incumbent provides specialized knowledge, support, and guidance on activities related to HES and occupational hygiene at JF HQ. This role is crucial for achieving HES standards and implementing an effective HES risk management approach to reduce the loss of workforce and other assets. The position informs senior leadership about critical HES situations and provides solutions to ensure compliance with Host Nation (HN) regulations, contributing to the development, implementation, and enforcement of H&S national and international directives and laws. Performance directly impacts the health and safety of the workplace and staff members.

Requirements

  • Higher Secondary education and completed higher vocational training in occupational health, health and safety or related discipline leading to a formal technical or professional certification with 3 years function related experience OR Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 5 years post related experience.
  • Broad HES background, including previous years of experience.
  • Experienced in coordination and communication of complex HES issues.
  • Excellent judgment and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as tact and discretion.
  • Ability to identify and quickly react to critical tasking and determine which issues to refer to supervisor.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, using own judgment and initiative to resolve conflicts.
  • Capability of handling details.
  • Ability to act swiftly in response to identified HES risks.
  • Strong team player, able to analyze input from management and propose action in the sphere of HES.
  • Clarity of expression both oral and in writing and acts tactfully.
  • English - SLP 3322 - (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification(s) in Occupational Health and Safety as recognized by USA.
  • Qualified for First Aid Activities within the workplace.
  • Holding a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Requirements OHSAS 18001:2007.
  • Working experience in identifying and assessing HES hazards.
  • Skills in analyzing the cause of hazards and the consequences for the HQ, issuing remedial measures.
  • Previous experience in industrial safety.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts risk assessments, develops and recommends remedial measures to rectify HES deficiencies.
  • Develops HES policies and directives.
  • Monitors compliance with relevant HES regulations.
  • Maintains continuous compliance on all HES matters with HN authorities and agencies and provides continuity and interface for HQ.
  • Investigates work-related accidents and recommends measures to prevent or reduce similar accidents.
  • Conducts workplace audits and inspections, and reports to Management.
  • Plans and coordinates HES education/training sessions and provides relevant information where appropriate.
  • Stays abreast with professional developments in their professional area.
  • Undertakes work as part of a project team or working group.
  • Participates in training and exercise events.
  • Collaborates with the HE&S Section Head in the performance of duties as foreseen by the Host Nation Law.
  • Is responsible for the correctness of legal-based recommendations and advice.
  • Has the authority to stop all dangerous activities.
  • Monitors the work of contractors to ensure work is performed in compliance with HN safety laws during the conduct of specialized/heavy works posing great risk to personnel.
  • Coordinates/advises on safety documentation needed in performing works contracted out in compliance with HN safety laws.
  • Liaises with HES specialists from agencies.
  • Liaises with all JFC HQ staff members on all HES related issues.
  • Acts as the liaison between JFC HQ and all HN HES agencies.
