About The Position

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: General Accounting & Close Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals and deferrals related to payroll, benefits, subcontractors, fuel, supplies, and equipment expenses Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes in a multi-location, service-based environment Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP Balance Sheet Reconciliations Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including: Payroll and payroll-related liabilities Accrued expenses and prepaid costs Vendor payables and clearing accounts Investigate reconciling items and partner with operations and payroll teams to resolve discrepancies Maintain audit-ready documentation for assigned accounts Accruals, Labor & Job-Related Accounting Calculate and record accruals for labor-intensive costs such as: Hourly wages, overtime, and benefits Landscaping crews, janitorial staff, and field supervisors Contracted services and recurring vendor expenses Support expense recognition for ongoing service contracts and seasonal landscaping activities Monitor prepaid items such as insurance, uniforms, equipment leases, and maintenance contracts Financial Reporting & Operational Support Assist in preparing internal financial statements and management reports Provide explanations for balance sheet and expense variances, particularly those tied to labor, fleet, and field operations Support job costing and operational analysis by ensuring accurate expense capture at the location or contract level Process Improvement & Controls Identify opportunities to improve close efficiency, reconciliation processes, and labor-related accounting workflows Support internal controls over payroll, vendor expenses, and recurring service contracts Participate in accounting system enhancements or integrations with payroll and time-tracking systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • 2–3 years of accounting experience in a service-based, labor-intensive organization
  • Hands-on experience with balance sheet reconciliations, accrual accounting, and monthly close
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems commonly used in commercial services environments (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Viewpoint, Oracle, SAP, or similar)
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortable working with payroll- and operations-driven data
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a recurring close cycle
  • Effective communicator with both finance and field-based operational teams
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening including background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in janitorial, landscaping, facilities management, or other commercial services industries
  • Exposure to contract-based revenue models
  • Experience supporting audits or internal control initiatives
  • Progress toward CPA or other professional accounting certification
