The Staff Accountant performs key functions for the Property Accounting Department at 2B Living, including Accounts Receivable, Property-level Compliance, Managing the dedicated accounting department email, and taking on various utility account projects. Developing and maintaining organized and well documented processes will be essential to success in this role. This is a new role at 2BL, which will require interaction with many members of the Property Accounting team to ensure all property needs are met for a rapidly growing management portfolio. The ideal candidate will not be afraid to pick up the phone to call local governments we operate in to get the answers we need!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
  • Appfolio experience preferred.
  • Accrual-based institutional financial reporting experience preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enter receipts of tenant rent checks.
  • Enter receipts of other checks received.
  • Deposit all checks received into the correct operating bank account for the property.
  • Set up and maintain check scanners for all banks we work with.
  • Create and maintain a system of organization to ensure all checks received are deposited on time and errors rates are low.
  • Complete all required compliance filings and payments for properties under management. Examples of compliance filings are business licenses, rent board fees, rent registry filings, etc.
  • Research required filings for existing jurisdictions that we currently operate in, and for jurisdictions we plan to expand to.
  • Resolve any delinquent filings/payments or penalty assessments.
  • Take ownership of the entire property level compliance process for all properties under management.
  • Document all compliance requirements for the jurisdictions we operate in.
  • Create a compliance calendar.
  • Create a system of processes to ensure filings and payments are made on time and in full.
  • Daily management of accounting email - Assign emails to the correct recipient within the accounting department.
  • Ensuring we have online access to all utility accounts for all properties under management.
  • Documenting utility login information to store securely and share with other team members.
  • Confirm method of delivery on utility bills that are missing.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
